Szenes, Hannah
Born in Hungary in 1921, Hannah Szenes (Senesh) immigrated to Mandate Palestine in 1939 and joined the British Army as a paratrooper in 1943. She parachuted behind German lines and crossed into Nazi-occupied Hungary in June 1944 to aid partisan units. She was captured and tortured for several months and executed by firing squad on November 7, 1944 at the age of 23.
