Operation “Harvest Festival”

Following liquidation of the Operation "Reinhard" killing centers Sobibor and Treblinka in late 1943 in response to a series of Jewish revolts in the region earlier in the year, SS chief Heinrich Himmler ordered the murder of the 45,000 Jews remaining in the Lublin District of the Generalgouvernement. Nearly 42,000 Jews were killed on November 3-4, 1943 in Operation "Harvest Festival," in what was the largest Nazi massacre of the war. The majority of them were prisoners at the camps of Majdanek, Poniatowa, and Trawniki.
