expropriation
Refers to the confiscation or forcible transfer of assets by a government or other authority. Per the "Order for the Disclosure of Jewish Assets" of April 26, 1938, Jews were required to register their property with Nazi authorities. During 1938-39, Jews wishing to leave Germany were required to relinquish their financial assets, property and other valuables to the state in order to obtain exit papers. Also called “Aryanization,” expropriation refers to the practice of seizing Jewish property by the Reich government (Nazis), who then auctioned the property to “Aryans.”
