Roosevelt, Franklin D.
The longest-serving president in U.S. history whose term (1933–1945) included World War II. During his presidency, Roosevelt, also known as FDR, faced unprecedented crises, including the Great Depression, the rise of fascism and World War II. The U.S. entered World War II only after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Roosevelt was re-elected three times and died during his fourth term, shortly before the end of World War II.
